Week 27 of the 2022 Major League Soccer campaign did not disappoint.

Sebastian Driussi’s efforts against LAFC secured him the lead in the Golden Boot race, while Gonzalo Higuain gave Inter Miami a goal to cheer for against the New York Red Bulls. But it was an Italian takeover at Toronto FC, as Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi secured the 2-0 victory over Charlotte FC.

Here’s this edition of goals of the week…

To kick off, we have Sebastian Driussi against LAFC. The player scored the fourth and final goal for Austin FC on Saturday, to seal the victory over the Western Conference leaders.

Driussi danced through defenders inside the box before managing the right-footed shot that found its way past Maxime Crépeau and into the back of the net.

Another week, another stunning set piece goal.

Diego Fagundez fired a rocket into the top left corner to open up the scoring in the 32nd minute. LAFC goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau attempted to make the save, but there was no stopping Fagundez’s strike.

Austin FC continue to sit in second place on the Western Conference table, just behind LAFC by six points.

Inter Miami’s main man was at it again on Saturday against the New York Red Bulls. Higuain managed another stunning set piece, firing the right-footed shot into the top right corner to gain the lead.

Though the South Florida expansion side eventually lost 3-1, Higauin’s efforts still incited excitement among fans. The team sits in sixth place on the Eastern Conference table, eyeing their first possible appearance in the MLS Playoffs since entering the league in 2020.

Lorenzo Insigne scored his fourth goal of the season, opting for a stunning bicycle kick against Charlotte FC on Saturday.

Insigne left goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina absolutely shocked as the ball found the back of the net to open up the scoring in the second half.

It just had to be Federico Bernardeschi. The Italian is quickly leaving his mark on Major League Soccer, after joining Toronto FC in July. He’s now managed five goals and three assists in just seven appearances.

His 66th minute strike doubled the score for the Canadian side, and sealed the victory over Charlotte FC. Toronto FC now sit in 10th on the Eastern Conference table, still fighting to secure a playoff slot.
