After a turbulent start to the 2022 Liga MX Apertura campaign, Chivas de Guadalajara seem to be back on track. The team won four of their last five matches to claim seventh place on the table with 19 points and a record of 4W-2L-7D.
Though head coach Ricardo Cadena acknowledged the team’s recent improvement, he maintains ‘I don’t know if it’s enough’ to qualify directly for Liguilla.
“We know that the distance of the teams that are in the first four places is considerable, I don’t know if it will allow us or if it will reach us, we will seek to go game by game, adding as many points as possible to see how far we can be allowed to place ourselves inside of the table,” he said.
“Our goal is to seek qualification and then we will look for the next phase, we will walk little by little, game by game.”
Only the top four teams of the Liga MX table qualify directly, while places five to 12 compete in a final series before playoffs. Chivas are coming off of a midweek 2-1 victory over Tijuana, before heading into the weekend to host Puebla at Akron Stadium.
Chivas hold the advantage over Puebla, who have struggled to win their last eight games. La Franja have only managed draws since July 30 to earn ninth place with 16 points and a record of 2W-1L-10D.
