Julian Nagelsmann has hit out at his Bayern Munich players following their 1-0 defeat to Augsburg on Saturday.
The Bundesliga champions have made a poor start to the 2022/23 campaign by their own lofty standards, winning just three of their opening seven league matches, drawing to Gladbach, Union Berlin and Stuttgart, and most recently losing at Augsburg.
Defeat means they’re now winless in each of their last four Bundesliga fixtures and sit fourth in the league table, level on points with fifth-placed Hoffenheim, who play Freiburg on Sunday.
Bayern dominated the ball against Augsburg, enjoying 77% of possession, but failed to score with any of their 19 shots and have gave away a number of chances at the other end.
Speaking to Sky after the game, Nagelsmann criticised his players for not being more clinical: “We’re just very, very laissez-faire in the final third. In practice, we don’t even have that much surplus.”
He went further, adding he questions his own performances too: “I think about everything. About me. About the situation. About everything.”
Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic admitted that he’s worried about Bayern’s performances, claiming they won’t be able to win the league playing as they are.
“We haven’t won in four games in the Bundesliga, have scored three out of twelve possible points, so I’m a little worried. The way we played today, you can’t win in the Bundesliga.
“We didn’t finish the situations – several situations we had – didn’t play concentrated to the end, didn’t finish with a certain greed to want to score goals and also allowed some chances against us, didn’t defend these situations to the end and, as I said, we can’t win in the Bundesliga.”
