Benjamin Pavard has admitted that he considered leaving Bayern Munich this summer after contact from a number of sides across Europe.
Pavard has been an important player for the Bundesliga champions since joining from Stuttgart at the start of the 2019/20 campaign, and his form piqued the interest of several teams this summer – Manchester United and Chelsea were both rumoured to be keen.
While a move never materialised, he has admitted that he considered leaving his current club for a new challenge.
“I questioned myself, I had calls from different clubs with my agent,” the defender told Telefoot.
“Afterwards, I had [a conversation with] the Bayern coach with whom we spoke and with whom we have a good relationship. He made me understand that I was in his plans, that I was important for the team.”
Pavard has two years left on his current deal, and so will most likely make a decision about his future at the end of the season, and the 26-year-old hasn’t ruled out moving to another club in the future.
“Maybe one day I will go to one of these clubs, you never know what the future holds,” he added.
“I’m focused on this year at Bayern Munich. Afterwards, we have time to project ourselves.”
Interest in him is only going to grow if he continues to perform as well as he is. This season, he has started every match and has been one of Bayern’s most impressive players in what has been a poor opening to the campaign for them.
