The Houston Dynamo have signed defender Daniel Steres to a two-year contract extension, the club announced Thursday.
Steres’ new deal runs through the 2024 MLS season with the Dynamo holding an option to extend through 2025.
“Daniel provides valuable leadership on and off the field and securing his future in Houston was an important first step in our offseason roster plans,” Dynamo general manager Pat Onstad said in a club press release.
“As we look to improve the roster for this upcoming season, we need to build around veterans who best embody our values and understand how to win in this league. Daniel is one of those players. We are happy that he and his family are committed to our project and the city of Houston.”
Steres joined the Dynamo from the LA Galaxy prior to the 2022 season and went on to make 18 MLS appearances (14 starts), scoring once and providing one assist.
Though the Galaxy account for the bulk of Steres’ professional appearances – turning out 151 times for the five-time MLS Cup champions across all competitions, the center-back has also represented the now-defunct Chivas USA and the Seattle Sounders in the past.
The Dynamo are currently in the process of hiring a new head coach after parting ways with Paulo Nagamura, with ex-DC United boss Ben Olsen and current El Salvador coach Hugo Perez among those interviewed for the role so far.
