We’re getting close to the business end of the 2022 World Cup. Giants are taking their inevitable seats in the knockout stages, and those who refuse to read scripts are squeezing their way through.
With the final group placings still being decided, fans can look forward to the last-16 stage with a very close eye on potential quarter-final ties. After that, the semi finals will be upon us.
So, without getting too ahead of ourselves, when are those semi finals?
The semi finals will take place over two days – Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 December – with one game on each date. The winners of each match will secure their places in the final at Lusail Iconic Stadium on 18 December.
The quarter finals on Friday 9 December will see the winners of Match 53 play the winners of Match 54, before the winners of Match 49 and Match 50 face each other.
On Saturday 10 December, the afternoon treat comes in the form of the winners of Match 55 and Match 56 before the winners of Match 51 and Match 52 come together in the evening.
There are a couple of knockout rounds to be completed before we learn the four sides that will contest the semi finals. However, a number of heavy hitters will be eyeing up spots in the final four.
England and France are on course to meet in the quarter finals should they win their last 16 clashes against Senegal and Poland respectively. On the other side of the draw, the Netherlands take on the United States and Argentina clash with Australia for places in the last eight.
The winners and runners up from Groups E, F, G and H are yet to be determined, leaving potential semi-finals opponents for already qualified nations up in the air. Brazil and Portugal have already qualified for the knockout stages from Group G and Group H, though the two Selecao sides still need to play their final group games.
