Exclusive – Austin FC have agreed a deal to sign free agent Dutch winger Cheick Toure, 90min understands.
The Verde and Black are busy strengthening their roster after an impressive 2022 season where they finished second in the Western Conference, reaching the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time and going all the way to the Western Conference Final.
It’s understood sporting director Claudio Reyna and head coach Josh Wolff are keen to strengthen the team’s forward line. 90min can reveal that Austin have already agreed a deal to sign Toure, 21, with an announcement of the transfer expected during the Christmas period.
Toure arrives at Q2 Stadium with plenty of pedigree having played 48 times for PSV Eindhoven’s second string, Jong PSV, over the past two years. That follows three years at fellow Dutch giants Feyenoord, where Toure played across various youth levels and even made his Eredivisie debut as a second-half substitute in a 5-0 win over Willem II in August.
Across all levels for PSV and Feyenoord combined, Toure notched 26 goals and 14 assists in 140 games.
On the international stage, Toure is capped three times for the Netherlands at youth level, scoring once for the U19s in a 4-0 win against Armenia in November 2018.
Toure – a right-footed winger who cuts in from the left flank – joins the likes of Sebastian Driussi, Moussa Djitte, Ethan Finlay, and Diego Fagundez on the Austin FC forward line.
