Chelsea have confirmed January signing Malo Gusto will stay with the club for the next few months to recover from a hamstring injury.

Gusto joined the Blues late in the winter window and was sent back to Lyon on loan. The 19-year-old has been a regular at right back for the Ligue 1 outfit but suffered the knock in just his second game after signing for Chelsea.

A statement reads: “Malo Gusto is to spend time at Cobham rehabilitating from an injury.

“The right-back, who signed for Chelsea in January, returned on loan to his previous club Lyon but having now been ruled out of action, he is expected to remain in England for a period of time under the supervision of our medical staff.”

He recently told Foot Mercato: “The transfer to Chelsea was a bit last minute, although I had been talking to them for some time.

“It was a good proposal, with a good project behind it, that’s what influenced me on this choice. I know we are not where we should be right now.

“There is always a little apprehension. Chelsea is a very big club, I’m changing countries. But when I sign, I know what to expect, and I sign to play and win.”

Gusto is expected to feature for Lyon later in the season. They are currently ninth in Ligue 1 despite 14 goals up front from Alexandre Lacazette. Parent club Chelsea aren’t doing much better, sitting tenth having won just one of their last seven Premier League games.
