Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic is getting closer to a comeback after almost three months out with a knee injury suffered in the early stages of a defeat to Manchester City on 5 January.

Pulisic, who has scored one goal in 21 appearances in all competitions so far this season, has missed eight games and counting during a time when the Blues have only found the net three times.

The American is among a number of Chelsea players who have been missing in recent months. But progress is being. The Blues welcomed N’Golo Kante back to light training earlier this week, with the Evening Standard has now reported that Pulisic was involved in part of Thursday’s session.

Pulisic did not participate in the whole session as he carefully increases his workload but there is hope from Chelsea that he could be available for selection when the Blues face Leeds on 4 March. His teammates will make the short trip across to Tottenham without him.

Since Pulisic last pulled on a Chelsea shirt, two new wingers bought for the best part of a combined £100m have joined the club in Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke.

Mudryk in particular has struggled to justify his massive transfer fee and has been poor in the games he has played since arriving from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Manager Graham Potter has been honest about the difficulty associated with trying to gel so many new players in a short space of time, especially with he himself also new to the club.

“There is transition and there are factors but, at the same time, when the team is losing and we’ve had the results we’ve had then you can also understand it,” Potter said after last weekend’s shock defeat to Premier League bottom club Southampton.

“We’ve invested in some young players, if you look at Enzo [Fernandez], Madueke and Mudryk, they haven’t played that many games. They are learning to play in the Premier League.”
