Xavi Hernandez has lamented the condition of the pitch at Coliseum Alfonso Perez after Barcelona’s dire 0-0 draw with Getafe.

Barca kept yet another clean sheet in La Liga on Sunday but once again struggled to create chances in the final third during an eventual 0-0 draw. The scoreless stalemate is Xavi’s side’s second in successive games – the first time this ‘feat’ has occurred since 2005.

Speaking to the press after the game, Xavi was keen to blame the state of Getafe’s home turf for the disappointing result for Barca, stating that his team found it difficult to play on such a ‘dry pitch’:

“The pitch held us back. We expected it, we trained on a dry pitch on Saturday. It is difficult to play here and it is not good for the spectacle. The ball gets stuck, it’s even bad for Getafe.

“It’s fundamental that the pitch is in good condition. But it is not an excuse and we have to get back on track. A point is not the worst considering how uncomfortable it was.

“We’re used to playing without the sun, to playing at night. But we have to get used to it, next Sunday we will play again at this time, I don’t want it to sound like an excuse but we have to adapt.”

Despite a second game without a win, Barcelona remain in a commanding position atop of the La Liga table. Xavi’s side currently sit a whooping 11 points clear of European champions Real Madrid having won 23 of their 29 league games thus far this season.
