Chelsea are in historically woeful form but could begin a long apology to fans with a good result against Arsenal on Tuesday.

Five straight defeats in a run of eight games without victory is objectively awful, but adding a loss to Arsenal into the mix would make things even worse. Chelsea need a serious response if they are to get fans back on their side.

GK: Kepa Arrizabalaga – He may only have six games left at Chelsea, so here’s hoping the Spaniard makes them good ones.

RB: Trevoh Chalobah – With Reece James out injured, Chalobah should get the job of dealing with Bukayo Saka instead of the ever-slowing Cesar Azpilicueta.

CB: Wesley Fofana – Fofana is the future of this Chelsea defence and must play every minute possible to ease his transition.

CB: Thiago Silva – If Kalidou Koulibaly were fit, Chelsea may be looking at lining up with three centre-backs. But with the Senegalese international crocked, Silva must his experience to guide a back four.

LB: Ben Chilwell – Marc Cucurella remains sidelined through injury so Chilwell is an obvious pick on the left side.

DM: Enzo Fernandez – Fernandez’s impact has started to fade recently but, truthfully, whose hasn’t during such a barren run?

CM: Conor Gallagher – The attacking experiment should end here for Gallagher, whose energy is better suited in midfield.

CM: N’Golo Kante – Surprisingly, Kante isn’t the best attacker either. A return to midfield is the right move for the Frenchman.

RW: Raheem Sterling – The chance to impress former Manchester City assistant Mikel Arteta may be the spark Sterling needs to get himself going again.

ST: Joao Felix – Kai Havertz is back in training but a start may be a little too far at this point, forcing each of Chelsea’s forwards to spend time in this central role.

LW: Mykhailo Mudryk – A penny for the thoughts of the former Arsenal target, who runs fast enough that he just may be able to go back in time to January so he can change his decision.
