Charlotte FC have completed the transfer of forward Daniel Rios to Liga MX side Chivas.

Rios has departed for an undisclosed fee after notching seven goals and two assists in 27 MLS appearances during CLTFC’s inaugural season. Prior to playing in Charlotte, Rios two years with Nashville SC.

“It was a pleasure to see Dani’s skills evolve throughout the year and make a strong impact on the field late in the season, which is a testament to the type of player development we’re building at Charlotte FC,” sporting director Zoran Krneta said in a club press release.

“Everyone at the club thanks Dani for his time at CLTFC and wishes him all the best upon the return to his former club.”

Rios returns to his homeland with the club where he began his professional career, originally joining the Chivas youth system in 2009. The 27-year-old never made a senior league appearance for Chivas last time around, finding more success out on loan or in cup competition.

Charlotte FC are now left with Karol Swiderski and Andre Shinyashiki as their main central striking options though, as reported by 90min, the club are close to securing a deal for Argentine striker Enzo Copetti from Racing Club.
