Chelsea have announced that all general admission tickets for their WSL clash with Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Sunday have sold out.
The fixture is the first time that the women’s team have played at the club’s main stadium since the opening day of the 2019/20 WSL season, where Spurs were again the visitors.
Chelsea ran out 1-0 winners on that occasion thanks to a stunning solo effort from B*th England. The match was also Tottenham’s debut outing in the WSL.
The Blues had been due to welcome West Ham to Stamford Bridge on the opening day of the 2022/23 campaign, but this was postponed due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
With WSL teams all hosting a minimum of one fixture at each club’s main stadium per season, Chelsea versus West Ham was rearranged for a Wednesday evening at Kingsmeadow, and Sunday’s clash with Tottenham was instead selected to be played at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s current WSL attendance record was set during their 2019 match up with Tottenham, which attracted a crowd of 24,564. However, the tickets were all giveaways and a smaller crowd than expected came through the gate, after not all of the 40,000 plus people who had taken up the free ticket attended the fixture.
Stamford Bridge has a capacity of 41,837, and even in the result of no-shows, Chelsea should comfortably eclipse their WSL attendance record on Sunday.
Tickets prices for Sunday’s fixture started at £9 for adults and £1 for juniors. Hospitality tickets are still available for the match.
The current WSL attendance record was set earlier this season, with a crowd of 47,367 watching Arsenal beat Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium. 53,757 tickets had been sold for the fixture.
Chelsea could climb to number two in the all-time WSL attendance record charts and eclipse the figure of 38,262 posted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium between Spurs and the Gunners in November 2019.
