Bayern Munich kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 2-0 win at Inter on Wednesday evening.

Die Roten were dominant from start to finish at San Siro, while the Nerazzurri already face an uphill battle in the ‘group of death’ that also contains Barcelona.

Summer signing Andre Onana had to be at his best to deny Joshua Kimmich early on, parrying away a low drive from the midfielder.

The two sides went back and forth in the opening exchanges, with Danilo D’Ambrosio forcing Manuel Neuer into a save, while Kingsley Coman and Thomas Muller came close for the visitors.

Bayern took a 25th-minute lead when Kimmich picked out Leroy Sane, who rounded Onana and poked the ball home.

Alphonso Davies and Muller again went close for the Bavarians in a scramble before the break, but Bayern’s lead stood at one at the interval.

Inter came flying out of the traps after half-time, with D’Ambrosio and Edin Dzeko wreaking havoc but little in the way of chances.

Julian Nagelsmann’s men responded with a flurry of mayhem themselves and were rewarded when D’Ambrosio ‘s shanked effort off the line ended up in the back of his own net.

Bayern will feel aggrieved they didn’t add a third to round off the evening, but nevertheless return to Germany victorious.
