Chelsea head coach Graham Potter has revealed that Tottenham counterpart Antonio Conte has previously offered him advice over WhatsApp.

The Blues travel to Spurs on Sunday lunchtime in a crunch Premier League clash, with the visitors looking to register just their second win of 2023.

Conte will not be present as he is at home in Italy recovering from gallbladder surgery. Assistant coach Cristian Stellini will lead from the touchline instead.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s London derby, Potter claimed that Conte texted him after Spurs’ victory at Brighton last season to offer him some advice.

In an exclusive interview with 90min, Joe Cole talks to Scott Saunders & Harry Symeou regarding all things Chelsea. They talk about Graham Potter’s future, Mason Mount, the Blues’ transfer policy and more.

“[The advice] was about doing your best today and not necessarily thinking too much about the future or the past. It was something that was on his WhatsApp message,” Potter said.

“It was when they beat us [Brighton]. He didn’t send any when we’d won. I spoke to him at Brighton and we have had conversations – and kept contact from a distance.

“He’s someone I’ve admired a lot as a coach and, then, when you meet him, he’s a gentleman. He has the passion but has always been good to me.

“Antonio has had an amazing career. I have huge respect for him as a coach – and, also, as a man, I really like him.”
