The New York Red Bulls have signed winger Lewis Morgan to a new contract, the club announced Friday.
Morgan has penned a three-year extension through the 2025 MLS season with the club holding an option on a further year.
“We are extremely happy to be able to sign Lewis to a new contract,” head of sport Jochen Schneider said in a club press release. “He had a tremendous first season with us, where he was a main contributor for the club, and we are excited to keep him at the club.”
Morgan has become a key player for the Red Bulls since arriving from Inter Miami at the start of last season, scoring 18 goals and providing three assists in 37 appearances across all competitions. In two seasons with Miami, the 26-year-old hit seven goals and seven assists in 58 appearances, winning the club’s MVP award in 2020.
The two-time Scotland international has also represented Sunderland, Celtic, and St. Mirren in Europe.
“Lewis was a very important player for our club last season,” head coach Gerhard Struber said. “He is a great player and person, who we are very excited to have with us and help us accomplish our goals for this season.”
The Red Bulls begin their 2023 season away at Orlando City on February 25, looking to begin a record 13th consecutive trip to the MLS Cup Playoffs.
