Chelsea have spoken with Luis Campos as part of their search for a new sporting director, 90min understands.

Former Blues chief Marina Granovskaia left the club shortly following Todd Boehly’s takeover, leaving the new co-owner to operate as interim sporting director during the summer transfer window, in which he spent close to £300m to bolster his new squad.

The plan was always to find a more-experienced head to take over from Boehly once the dust from the transfer window had settled and now Chelsea are focused on sorting out their recruitment team – a process in which new manager Graham Potter will help.

Sources have confirmed to 90min that a number of candidates are under consideration for the role, and talks have been held with Campos – with Chelsea more than impressed with his work rebuilding Paris Saint-Germain’s squad this summer.

Campos is free to speak with other clubs as he does not have an exclusive contract with PSG and is instead employed as a football advisor, in a similar fashion to Manchester United’s plan for Ralf Rangnick earlier this summer.

PSG are, however, keen to offer Campos a formal contract to keep his highly valued services for themselves.

Portugal native Campos, who made his name overseeing Monaco and Lille’s recent Ligue 1 title triumphs, enjoyed a busy summer at Parc des Princes as he helped organise deals for Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz, Carlos Soler, Renato Sanches, Hugo Ekitike and Nordi Mukiele – the latter of whom was subject to a late approach from Chelsea.

At Stamford Bridge, Boehly is holding talks with a number of high-profile candidates as he seeks to build a dominant recruitment department.

Potter and his transfer chief Kyle Macauley will both have a significant say in who gets the job, with Boehly looking to create a strong link between the manager and the board to try and build a squad in Potter’s vision, similar to the strategies employed by Liverpool and Manchester City with Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola respectively.
