We’re getting right into the business end of the Premier League season and every weekend is crucial up and down the table.

There’s a title race, a big battle for various European places, and a relegation scrap involving almost half of the league.

Much of Saturday’s focus will be on the many teams fighting for European qualification spots, be that the Champions League, the Europa League or the Europa Conference League. With only one of Arsenal and Manchester City playing, there is less focus on the top of the table.

It is also a day with just one game featuring two sides that can be considered in the relegation battle together. Here is all you need to know about Saturday’s Premier League action.

This game promises to be a thrilling way to get the day’s action underway with two confident and in-form teams with a lot to play for doing battle. Newcastle are third in the Premier League coming into the weekend and know they have their own Champions League hopes in their hands.

As for Aston Villa, Unai Emery has suddenly lofted his team into contention for a UEL or UECL place having previously seemed destined for a mid-table finish. Both teams have won their last four in the league and it will be a great occasion at Villa Park.

Crystal Palace v Southampton FC - Premier League

This is the only game on Saturday which features two teams in the relegation fight, although they are at very different ends of it. Having battered Leeds United 5-1 last weekend, Crystal Palace are now six points clear of the drop.

Southampton, meanwhile, are bottom and four points from safety. They desperately need to start beating the teams around them and a win here would give the Saints fresh hope while dragging Palace back into the mix.

While there has been an improvement for Everton since Sean Dyche took the reins, they are still very much in danger of getting dumped into the Championship while building a new stadium.

This will be a really tough game, with Fulham enjoying a great season and still looking at a very slim chance of a European adventure next season. The first goal could be vital here.

After an extremely important victory over Brighton last weekend, albeit in fortunate circumstances, Tottenham have to ensure they do not throw away that positivity with a surprise defeat to a team fighting against relegation.

Bournemouth are out of the bottom three now but are certainly not out of danger. Their fate likely won’t be sealed until the final day of the season so anything they can get in London will be more than welcome.

Brentford FC v Wolverhampton Wanderers - Premier League

This is a game between two sides that have a lot to play for with some great players on the books. Wolves’ squad is much better than their league position; they’re actually 13th but this season being 13th means you’re only four points from the drop.

As for Brentford, they are still firmly in the hunt to grab a European place of some description. The Bees have to be the favourites but, after a good win over Chelsea, Wolves should not be underestimated.

Chelsea would be wise to give this Brighton game their full attention. They are unlikely to beat Real Madrid by three goals in the return leg of their Champions League quarter final, so resting players here for that game doesn’t seem wise.

The Seagulls will be well-poised to take advantage of any tiredness the Chelsea players show, with the presence of Frank Lampard not yet enought to spark the Blues into life.

Saturday’s evening game will be watched keenly by not just fans of Man City and Leicester, but also Arsenal and all of the teams in the relegation fight. Leicester are firmly entrenched in the scrap now and it would be close to a miracle if they got something from this game.

City know they can close the gap to just three points before Arsenal play on Sunday away at West Ham, so they will not be lacking motivation. They are also fresh off the back of an impressive 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
