Harry Kane has lamented Tottenham’s slow starts to games this season after the Lilywhites conceded three goals in the opening 15 minutes at Anfield.

Spurs gave themselves a mountain to climb on Sunday against Liverpool, with three defensive lapses inside the earliest part of the game leaving them 3-0 down. While Tottenham did manage to claw their way back into the game to make it 3-3 via a Richarlison goal in the 93rd minute, they did eventually lose the game thanks to an even later goal from Diogo Jota.

The start to the game was extremely similar to the one last weekend, when Spurs conceded a quite ridiculous five goals inside the opening 21 minutes at St. James’ Park against Newcastle United in a game they’d go on to lose 6-1.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Kane admitted that the slow starts to games were costing Spurs valuable points.

“It was a dreadful start, the first 20 minutes,” he said. “[It is] obviously not the first time it’s happened this season. To have the starts that we’ve had is hard to put into words. It’s hard to even talk about.

“We’ve conceded pretty much in the first minute in the last three games we’ve played and yeah it’s down to us to go away and find out the reason why and how we can improve the situation.

“The table doesn’t lie. And where we are doesn’t lie. We’ve got some fantastic players and some fantastic moments and overall as a team we’re not playing well enough collectively you know. We need to find a way to get through moments when things don’t go our way and we need to find a way of starting games away from home where you’re not under the cosh straight away.

“We deserve where we are and that’s what the league table [says]. We have four games and this one is going to be hard to take but we’ve got a week until the next game and have to look at it back and try to move on.”

Kane has been heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer, with 90min understanding that the club are anticipating both Manchester United and Chelsea making their interest in the striker formally known in the near future.
