Luke Shaw was critical of Manchester United’s performance in their 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.
Two early goals from Leon Bailey and Lucas Digne saw a stunned Unitd 2-0 down inside the opening 10 minutes of the game. A deflected goal at the end of the first half pulled them back into the contest, but they collapsed again after the break.
Unai Emery’s side capitalised on a rotated United outfit who were all at sea and out of the game when Jacob Ramsey made it 3-1 in the 49th minute.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Shaw didn’t hold back: “We lost the game in the first 20 minutes of each half, we knew they were going to come out, new manager and the crowd would be behind them.
“In games like this, if you start slowly then we will lose the game. We weren’t good enough,” He claimed, adding: “We always going to believe we can win the game, even at 2-0 down. We spoke about starting well in the second half but conceded again, then it’s a mountain to climb and the game is done.
“We started sloppy, gave the ball away too easily, that is not good enough. We suffered today, we did not deserve to win.”
Shaw’s assessment was to the point as United’s nine-game unbeaten run came to an end at the expense of Villa snapping their own poor record against the Red Devils, beating them in the Premier League for the first time since August 1995.
