The season-opener between LAFC and LA Galaxy at the Rose Bowl has been postponed to a later date due to “safety considerations resulting from inclement weather and forecasted thunderstorms in the Los Angeles area.”
“Major League Soccer, the LA Galaxy and LAFC today announced that the 2023 MLS Regular Season match scheduled for this Saturday, Feb. 25 between the LA Galaxy and LAFC at Rose Bowl Stadium will be postponed to a later date,” confirmed the league.
“A new match date will be scheduled at the next earliest availability and communicated as soon as possible. Tickets originally purchased for Saturday’s opener will be honored for the rescheduled match date. Additional ticketing information will be released by the Galaxy today.”
In addition to the postponed season-opener, the two teams will face each other on April 16 and September 16 as part of the regular 2023 MLS campaign.
LAFC will now kick off the 2023 campaign on March 4, when hosting the Portland Timbers, while LA Galaxy travels to Toyota Stadium to face FC Dallas.
The special edition of El Trafico would have broken Major League Soccer single-game attendance records, after both teams confirmed more than 70,000 tickets were sold for the event. Charlotte FC currently holds the honor, after hosting 74,479 fans at Bank of America Stadium for their season-opener against LA Galaxy in 2022.
