Newcastle’s quest to end their struggles on the road will continue on Friday when they visit Nottingham Forest.
Eddie Howe’s Magpies have found life hard on their travels in 2023 and are up against a Forest side who pride themselves on their home form, so the boss will have to make sure he gets his team selection right.
Here’s how Newcastle could set up.
GK: Nick Pope – A few moments of madness in recent weeks from Pope, who is fortunate not to have been sent off last time out against Wolves.
RB: Kieran Trippier – Trippier ended his assist drought against Wolves and will be keen to keep building on that momentum.
CB: Sven Botman – Reports of interest from a handful of European giants have emerged after an excellent season from Botman.
CB: Fabian Schar – Schar may not be the most glamorous name in Newcastle’s defence but he could be the most effective.
LB: Dan Burn – Burn has been targeted by nimble wingers in recent weeks so the towering defender needs to be on his game.
DM: Bruno Guimaraes – Bruno is flying the Brazilian flag by himself as Joelinton prepares to serve the second of his two-game ban.
CM: Joe Willock – Joelinton’s absence has re-opened the door to Willock, who has been the unlucky man to drop to the bench when everyone is available.
CM: Sean Longstaff – One of the constants of Howe’s midfield, Longstaff is enjoying a real resurgence after a few years lost in the wilderness.
RW: Miguel Almiron – Almiron came off the bench to score against Wolves last week and will return to the starting lineup.
ST: Alexander Isak – Isak also scored last time out and that should give him the edge over Callum Wilson.
LW: Allan Saint-Maximin – With Joelinton suspended, there aren’t a whole lot of alternatives for the Frenchman.
