Pedro Porro has claimed that he missed Sporting CP training on Monday as he was determined to complete a late window move to Tottenham Hotspur.

90min first revealed in December that Spurs had made contact with Sporting over a potential January transfer for Porro, but were told they would need to pay his €45m release clause up front.

After a long month of negotiations, Tottenham have now agreed to pay €48m in several instalments.

Porro, who was initially expected to have a medical in London on Monday, had to wait to travel to England as talks spilled over into this week.

He was granted permission to miss Sporting training, and speaking to reporters at Lisbon airport late on Monday night, reaffirmed his love for the club despite the imminent move.

Listen now as Scott Saunders hosts Graeme Bailey and Toby Cudworth to discuss why Joao Cancelo looks set to join Bayern Munich on loan from Man City, Arsenal’s ongoing pursuit of Moises Caicedo & the futures of Pedro Porro, Enzo Fernandez, Youri Tielemans and more.

“I’m grateful to Sporting, I love the club,” Porro said.

“I didn’t train as I was only focused on the transfer to Spurs but I will always be thankful to the club.”

Porro arrived at Spurs’ Hotspur Way training ground overnight and will undergo a medical on deadline day. He will become Tottenham’s second senior January signing following the loan arrival of Arnaut Danjuma from Villarreal.
