The MLS Cup is set for Saturday, as LAFC hosts the Philadelphia Union at Banc of California Stadium.
The Union reached the Cup after triumphing 3-1 over New York City FC in the Eastern Conference Final, while LAFC earned hosting rights when defeating Austin FC 3-0.
These are the goals that helped both teams reach the final…
Let’s kick off with Opoku’s strike against Austin FC.
The player came off the bench in the 71st, replacing goalscorer Chicho Arango in the attack. He wasted no time, scoring the team’s third and final goal only 10 minutes later to seal the 3-0 victory over the Texas side.
It was Opoku’s seventh goal of the season, coming in at the perfect time.
Maxi Moralez did it again for NYCFC, opening up the scoring in the Eastern Conference final. And it’s no easy feat against 2022 Goalkeeper of the Year Andre Blake.
Though the team eventually fell 3-1 to the Philadelphia Union, the player gave fans something to cheer about when connecting with teammate Santiago Rodríguez to find the back of the net in the second half.
It had to be Chicho Arango. After scoring the last minute winner against LA Galaxy in the semifinal, the player was at it again aginast Austin FC.
He opened up the scoring in the first half, heading home a ball from teammate Carlos Vela to inspire LAFC to the final. Overall, it was the player’s 16th goal of the season.
First, and foremost, we have Daniel Gazdag against NYCFC. He’s been a key figure for the Union throughout the 2022 campaign, but on Sunday he proved himself once again when scoring the team’s second goal.
It was a stunning 67-minute effort from the player, beating Sean Johnson to find the top of the net for the 2-1 lead. The Philadelphia Union will need Gazdag’s energy as they head to Los Angeles for the MLS Cup on Saturday.
